Year at a glance – snapshot

To assist people during COVID-19 we:

  • amended vaccination standards to increase access to immunisation training for pharmacists
  • revised the delivery mode for our Intern Written Exam to give candidates the option to sit remotely
  • planned a virtual site visit to assess pharmacy Intern Training Program
  • fast-tracked overseas trained pharmacists to get them on the front line
  • held virtual exam question writing workshops

To enhance our professional services we:

  • established a Technical Working Group to review the Knowledge Assessment of Pharmaceutical Sciences (KAPS) examination following an expression of interest
  • formed an Externl Reference Group to help deliver the Intern Written Exam remotely
  • collaborated with 62 dedicated pharmacists and community representatives as subject matter experts across our committees, working groups and special projects
  • met with with the Council of Pharmacy Schools at least 3 times and with the Pharmacy Board of Australia 5 times

To contribute our expertise to the health profession we:

  • continued our participation in the public consultation on the Prescribing Competencies Framework, led by the National Prescribing Service (NPS MedicineWise)
  • contributed to the Review of pharmacist vaccination reporting to the Australian Immunisation Register (Parts A and B) study conducted by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance (NCIRS)
  • participated in the advisory group for the Enhancing Quality in Pharmacy Practice (EQuiPP) project

To share our knowledge in pharmacy education and accreditation we presented on:

  • improving use of medicines through our work as an accreditation authority at the International Society to Improve the Use of Medicines (ISIUM), Bangkok, Thailand
  • interprofessional education through the lens of social accountability at the CLEAR conference, USA
  • social accountability as a framework for better health outcomes at the APSA Congress
  • social accountability in health professional education: Shaping the future at the TEQSA Conference
  • improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples at the Monash Pharmacy Education conference, Prato, Italy
  • how accreditation can prepare a culturally safe workforce for the future at the NRAS Conference
  • what students should expect from the degree and intern year at the NAPSA Congress

To continue our international reach we:

  • invited the Vietnam Ministry of Health delegation to visit us to share information and processes on pharmacy accreditation and assessment in Australia
  • attended the international pharmacy FIP congress in Abu Dhabi, where we continued our relationship with LLLP conferences by signing a sponsorship with their next host, Catriona Bradley (IIOP)
  • signed an MoU with the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy USA, to share our processes and ensure best practice between countries
  • visited the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education and National Association of Boards of Pharmacy in Chicago, USA, to further our engagement within our MoU’s
  • visited the Monash Malaysia Campus with Monash Parkville colleagues to engage with their staff and students
  • attended the Global Workforce Symposium on Accreditation and Regulation, Istanbul to share and learn from international colleagues
